Meet Seamus

Seamus Snowboarding
In a way, this blog is all about my main man Seamus. My two year old son is a little bad ass and the main reason I decided to get back into shape. My trophy wife is already locked in so I don't need to be fit for the ladies. I want to be able to keep up with my son and his brother that is on the way. Being healthy is mostly about being a good dad for these guys.

Today we went snowboarding at a little hill west of the city called Raging Buffalo. Probably a bit ambitious to get the kid on a board so young but my expectations were extremely low. My intent was to start exposing this stuff to him and gauge his interest. We got out on ski's a couple times last year and people thought I was nuts. This time, people were stoked. Seamus blew my mind and did a great job. I was fully prepared for him to want to go home before we even hit the magic carpet. He actually insisted on riding by himself and didn't want me to help at all. I spent the night chasing him down, carrying him back up the hill, and dragging him back to the top. It was a damn good workout, exactly what I have been training for.

Maybe I am one of those crazy parents who push their children toward their hobbies. Maybe it is selfish of me to want my kids to love my favorite sport as much as me. I will tell you one thing, this was the best day of snowboarding of my life and I took about 5 runs on the bunny hill.

Old Man Strength

So my fitness and diet goals had been working out pretty damn good over the past few weeks but a Nerdery holiday party derailed them a bit. A bar closing bender followed by "breakfast" at Denny's set me back a few days in the Whole30 deal. From what I remember, there were some eggs and bacon involved in the Denny's breakfast, that is Protein right? I did a bunch of burpees and a few rounds of arm wrestling (yes burpees in the denny's) so I got my reps in but I don't think i can rationalize away the 3 gallons of beer consumed that night.

When I started the diet a couple of weeks ago I knew the party was coming. I knew that my old pal Bill Brakeman (pictured destroying me in arm wrestling) wouldn't allow me to puss out and not have a blast at the company party. I fully planned to cheat 14 days into the 30. So I have decided to give the Whole30 a fair shake and reset to day one today. The basic premise of this reset is to not cheat. Shit is working, I want to make sure I get the best results possible so I will step back to day one.

Bill Brakeman may be an old man, but he is one strong S.O.B.

Here is my exercise/meal plan for today.
